The volumes are calculated using the DTM’s.

When a volume is calculated all points in both DTM’s are used in a computer generated prismoidal volume calculation which is the most accurate method available.  This differs from the traditional cross-section method which uses an averaging principal and can result in poor results unless a large number of cross-sections are used.

Another advantage of using DTM’s is that Surface Codes can be applied to the model to produce very detailed reports breaking down the volume by different areas of site or different types of material.
